Breaking!! Museveni Removes Stephen Nuwagaba from State House Following Security Probe, Withdraws His Security Detail
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has reportedly removed Stephen Nuwagaba from State House and withdrawn his security privileges following an investigation by the Chieftaincy of Defence Intelligence and Security (CDIS) into allegations surrounding his identity, professional credentials and claims of torture.
The investigation reportedly found that Nuwagaba had misrepresented himself as a cyber expert and a victim of torture. The allegations had raised concerns within security circles and reportedly contributed to the dismissal of officers accused of involvement in his alleged torture.
Veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda, who previously raised concerns about Nuwagaba with Museveni, has welcomed the reported decision. Mwenda has also called for the reinstatement of officers dismissed in connection with the case.
He further urged authorities to release Captain Amis Ainebyona, who has reportedly spent more than two years in detention over allegations linked to Nuwagaba’s alleged torture.
The controversy was brought to public attention by Mwenda’s The Independent newspaper, prompting questions about how Nuwagaba allegedly gained access to senior security officials and whether the claims attributed to him influenced decisions affecting security personnel.
The reported removal of Nuwagaba now places renewed focus on the officers who lost their positions and the continued detention of Captain Ainebyona. The case also raises broader questions about vetting procedures, accountability and the handling of allegations within Uganda’s security establishment.
Below Is Andrew Mwenda’s Statement
After a thorough investigation led by the Chieftaincy of Defense Intelligence and Security, President Yoweri Museveni has decided to remove the notorious liar and fraudster, Stephen Nuwagaba, from state house Nakasero.
He has also stripped him of the security detail he had been given by former commander of SFC, David Mugisha (Biddie): two presidential jeeps, a section of SFC guards plus a pistol and rifle.
The CDIS investigation confirmed all the details The Independent newspaper had written about Nuwagaba. The president was shocked to discover that Nuwagaba was neither a cyber security expert nor a victim of torture as he had claimed. Instead, the president found out, the guy is an extortionist using lies and fabrications to spread confusion and mayhem.
Nuwagaba, through his lies, distortions and misinformation caused the sacking of many loyal and diligent officers from state house and the SFC. I appeal to the president to reassess these staff and reinstate them to their jobs. I also appeal to the president to cause the release of Capt Amis Ainebyona who has been in jail for more than two years on false allegations of torturing Nuwagaba.
As a senior citizen of this country, I want to thank the president unreservedly for this bold and decisive step. I also want to thank him for calling me to explain to him the background of Nuwagaba and his lies and distortions.
The struggle continues!
